Abstract This paper examines the presence and significance of Karan Johar’s 2016 Bollywood film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil on the Internet Archive (IA). While the IA is traditionally known for preserving websites, books, and public domain media, its growing collection of user-uploaded commercial films—including ADHM—presents a paradox. The paper analyzes how the film’s availability on IA serves as a resource for international fans, film scholars, and archivists, while simultaneously raising critical questions about copyright infringement, platform governance, and the future of South Asian cinematic heritage in digital spaces. 1. Introduction Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (transl. “Oh Heart, It’s Difficult”), directed by Karan Johar and released by Fox Star Studios, is a romantic musical drama starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Despite mixed critical reviews, the film achieved commercial success and became a cultural touchstone for discussions on toxic relationships, platonic love, and the aesthetics of Bollywood melancholy.
