The first Tamil movie to cross at the box office was "Enthiran" (2010) , also known as Robot in Hindi.

It was India’s most expensive film at the time (budget ~₹132 crore) and featured pioneering CGI and VFX work by Hollywood studios (including Stan Winston’s team for the robots). Its success proved that a high-budget South Indian film with strong visual effects could achieve pan-Indian and international box office milestones, paving the way for later ₹100+ crore Tamil blockbusters.
