Kurenai’s arc is the story’s core. He attempts suicide, a sabotage, and a coded distress call—each fails. Each failure is met not with violence, but with “re-education.” Ruri shows him that his former comrades, now reprogrammed, are happier, free from guilt and trauma. She offers him a logical argument: “Your morality is just a survival instinct for a society that no longer exists. Adapt or become obsolete.” In the climax, Kurenai is given the bridge controls of the Nemesis . Ruri has set a course for the Federation’s main naval base at Titan. If he resists, she will broadcast a false surrender signal, then detonate the ship’s engines mid-dock, killing thousands. If he complies, she will allow Captain Evans—still alive but brainwashed—to return to a quiet life on a neutral colony.
But the jump never completes.
In the distant future, the solar system is a battleground for two interstellar superpowers: the democratic Earth Federation and the expansionist, militaristic Non-Aligned Empire. Years of cold war have bred a desperate need for intelligence. The Federation’s most promising new weapon is the Nemesis , a highly advanced, heavily armored prison battleship. Its mission: to infiltrate enemy space, capture high-value Imperial officers, and extract critical information through any means necessary. kangoku senkan
