While Microsoft has moved on to .NET 8, 9, and beyond, legacy enterprise apps, classic games, and specialized medical/industrial software still depend on .NET 2.0. The problem? Microsoft’s official download page for .NET 2.0 now automatically redirects to the latest .NET 8 runtime.
It’s 2026, and you’re likely here because an old piece of software just threw an error: “This application requires .NET Framework 2.0.”
Run DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /Source:X:\sources\sxs (replace X: with your Windows USB path). Have an old app that refuses to see .NET 2.0 even after install? Drop the exact error code in the comments.
