In the official broadcast of S02E13 (“All Is Lost”), Clark survives his brutal fight with Ally Alston but spends the episode recovering in the Fortress, haunted by nightmares. Lois investigates a new lead on Bruno Mannheim. It’s a quiet, character-driven bridge episode.
The episode opens not in Smallville, but on a black screen. Audio only. Clark’s voice, ragged and distorted: “I saw it, Lo. The other side. It’s not empty. It’s hungry.” Then a flash of strobe-lit footage—Superman falling through a kaleidoscope of red skies, doppelgänger Earths, and a version of Lois who wears the Eradicator symbol. The workprint has no opening credits. Just a title card in Courier New: “DIRECTOR’S PROOF – NOT FOR REVIEW.”
