One day, Dre meets Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a maintenance worker who becomes his mentor. Han teaches Dre the ways of kung fu, which helps him to defend himself against his bullies. As Dre learns kung fu, he also learns valuable life lessons about perseverance, self-discipline, and respect.

The movie is a remake of the 1984 original, directed by John G. Avildsen. The story revolves around Dre Parker (Jaden Smith), a 12-year-old boy who moves from Detroit to Beijing, China, with his mother (Taraji P. Henson).
