They solve the Maze. A door opens, revealing a dark corridor leading to an elevator. But their escape is a trap. Scientists in white coats sedate them. Thomas wakes up in a white room with a woman on a screen: Dr. Ava Paige. She explains: The world outside is dead. A solar flare scorched the Earth, and a virus called the Flare turned most of humanity into violent, brain-dead creatures called Cranks. Thomas and the others are “Immunes”—they carry a natural cure in their blood. The Maze was designed to force their brains to adapt and unlock a final pattern.

Their leader, Alby, explains the rules: They’ve been here for two years. Every month, a new boy arrives. Outside the walls lies the Maze—a shifting, monstrous labyrinth of stone corridors that traps them here. By night, half-human, half-machine creatures called Grievers—covered in metal spikes and slimy flesh—hunt the Maze’s corridors. The doors close every dusk.
