Scarlett Marlowe, a brilliant and obsessive young archaeologist, has spent her life chasing history’s greatest secrets. Her quest takes her to the catacombs beneath Paris, a labyrinth of bones and darkness holding the remains of six million souls. Scarlett deciphers a final clue hidden within a medieval alchemist’s stone, pointing her toward the stone’s true location: a chamber deep within the ossuary, accessible only through a sealed gateway marked by a flaming cross.

They find a stone door carved with the alchemical motto: "As above, so below." Scarlett translates it: “The state of the inner world reflects the state of the outer. What you carry within, you will meet below.”

They move forward, and the catacombs begin to warp. The team starts seeing things: Papillon is confronted by the ghost of his dead brother, whom he abandoned during a childhood accident. Benji is chased by a hooded figure that whispers his darkest secret—that he once left a woman to drown. Souxie is dragged into a pit of bones by skeletal hands that resemble those of a girl she bullied to suicide.
