1. Introduction Rijāl al-Kāshī (The Biographical Compendium of al-Kāshī) is one of the earliest and most authoritative works of ʿilm al-rijāl (the science of narrators) within Twelver Shi’ism. Formally titled Ikhtiyār maʿrifat al-rijāl (The Selection Concerning Knowledge of Narrators), it was compiled by Abū ʿAmr Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Kashshī (d. ca. 340–360 AH / 951–971 CE), commonly known as al-Kāshī.
